CHARACTERS:
Dina
Toby
The intro music fades and we find ourselves in Toby and Dina’s place. These siblings don’t live in the most civilized manor. We hear the screen door flapping, birds can be heard either inside or outside of what’s left of the windows, and the bugs…
A very low tech old phone rings. DINA shambles over and picks it up.
DINA:
Yeah, whadya want? Uh huh. Uh huh. Uh huh. What now? Yeah, you know you gonna get paid if this pans out. You think we gonna welsh on our debts? I didn’t think so. We’ll be there.
SHE slams the phone down
Idiot. Toby, where you at?
TOBY:
Back at my painting space.
WE hear DINA shamble over to a door that creaks a bit as she opens it.
TOBY:
Hey, you wanna, wanna, pass my my paintin’ jar, Dina?
DINA:
(Grabs a nearby jar, and sniffs) Fresh. Where you get fresh?
TOBY:
I got my ways. Now watch out lest you get some on you.
DINA:
That’s purty.
TOBY:
It’s gonna be real Art, sis. I can feel it on this one.
A pause.
DINA:
You’re right. That’s real purty. Hey, had a call. That Sid fella.
TOBY:
Sid. Sid. Sid (chuckles). Ever wonder what he’d be like on the wall? We got room.
DINA:
‘Course I wonder. But he gots uses. There’s a flow up at the Top’o the World. Tonight.
TOBY:
Tonight?
DINA:
That’s right.
A pause.
TOBY:
Ain’t been up there for a spell.
DINA:
No we haven’t.
TOBY:
Good flow there.
DINA:
That’s right.
TOBY:
You wanna get something to drink for we go? I could go for onna them Mellow Yellows.
DINA:
I was thinking the same thing brother of mine.
THEY begin to sing a song that can only be described as a butchered version of Mellow Yellow by Donovan, but not really…
